The Koshland Science Museum offers a variety of opportunities for individuals interested
in science to share their talents. From volunteer Exhibit Interpreters who work with visitors daily to behind-the-scenes staff who work in the office, the museum provides
a fun and dynamic environment!
Volunteers
The museum utilizes volunteers as Exhibit Interpreters.
If you are interested in science and have a desire to learn as well as teach,
this is the volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteer Exhibit Interpreters interact
with Museum visitors daily, providing information about the exhibits, answering
questions, and conducting demonstrations. Benefits of volunteering at the Koshland
Science Museum include interaction with scientists, backstage participation
in special events, free Museum passes, discount at National Academies bookstore
and more. Volunteer Exhibit Interpreters provide visitor service
daily in four-hour shifts from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m, Monday through Sunday.

Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Graduate Fellowship Program
Fellows
in the National Academies’ Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology
Graduate Fellowship Program are eligible to work at the Koshland Science Museum. This
program is open to graduate science, engineering, medical, veterinary,
business, and law students. The museum has been fortunate to include some exceptional
Fellows on its development team. Past Fellows have worked closely with museum
staff and Academies members in developing museum exhibitions through the following
projects:
- Investigating and summarizing background materials for an exhibition
on DNA sequencing
- Attending exhibit development meetings and assisting with deliberations
among Academy members and other content experts, designers, and evaluators
- Identifying
materials and web links from other museum exhibitions related to climate
change and genetics
- Developing innovative public programming
